TED Talk: How to Green the World’s Deserts and Reverse Climate Change

“Desertification is a fancy word for land that is turning to desert.” So begins Allan Savory in his quietly power yet terrifying talk. Desertification is happening to 2/3rds of the world’s grasslands. It is accelerating climate change and with it causing traditional grazing societies to descend into poverty, hunger, and chaos.

Savory has devoted his life to stopping this. He now believes – and shows in the video – a method that can be easily used to return degraded land into productive grasslands. Yet this method is contrary to popular thinking which suggests quite the opposite and, thru that, meets with unwarranted resistance.

This 22 min video is well worth your time to watch, contemplate, and consider its implications.
